The Goldilocks Approach to Normothermia Management: Not too hot - Not too cold just right!
Title: The Goldilocks Approach to Normothermia Management: Not too hot - Not too cold just right!
1 hour
Speaker: Mary Kay Bader RN, MSN, CCNS, FAHA, FNCS
Program Description:
This course covers physiology associated with brain injuries and the impact temperature has on acute brain injuries. She covers the definition & sources of fever, methods of monitoring fever, refractory fever, management of fever and goal-oriented care. There is a section on the physiology of temperature regulation and thermoregulatory responses including shiver recognition and shiver control. The program ends with Mary Kay reviewing the evidence-based protocol used at the facility she is employed and how the protocol came into practice on a recent case.
Educational Objectives:
By the end of this course the participant will be able to:
- Relate the pathophysiological impact of injury to the central nervous system to temperature management
- Identify key physiological and systemic effects temperature has on the ICU patient
- Translate the research on normothermia into practice by developing evidence- based protocols
- Apply the normothermia protocol interventions to an actual case study
Audience:
Critical Care Nurses, Advance Practice Providers and Emergency Neurologic response teams working with brain injured patients.
